i have been looking at everything from 42 - 53 inch sets. Its tough because the room actually has not been built yet so its kind of hard to image what it will be like. I have been looking at Panasonics, Mitsubishi, toshiba, and hitachi CRT RPTVs. What do yall recommend i take a look at? I dont have the money for a lcd/dlp and this will be going in the basement where there is only one window so light will not be an issue.
Thanks for the help,
Andrew

Here is how you calculate tv size: mutiply the diaganol size by 1.5 and 3. Those will be your min and max sizes you will need for your given distance. Example: 50 inch tv, multiplied by 1.5 = 75 inches divided by 12 inches(1 foot) = 6.25 feet. This would be the biggest tv you will need if you view from 6.25 feet. Multiply that same 50 inch tv by 3 and you will get 150 inches divided by 12 inches(1 foot) = 12.5 feet. So with multiplying by 1.5 and 3 will will get your min and max distances for any given sized tv. A 50 inch is good for 6.25 feet to 12.5 feet.

Not quite sure the measurements of the living room in my apartment, its comfortable and neither small or large, but I have a 46" TV about 10 feet away from the couch and it is comfortable to watch if thats any help. Screens significantly bigger than that would have messed up my eyes from that distance.

I watch my 60in TV from 13ft. You can watch a HDTV at much closer distance than the old regular TV.

thanks for the input, do any of yall have a brand preferance or any input as to what would provide the most bang for the buck in the 1200-1700 range?

Of the two brands you mentioned, I like (and owned) Mitsubishi better. Panasonic was one of the brands I looked but I like Mitshbishi's picture better. In additon, I think Mit has a better user interface. For $1,200-$1,700 you probably can only find sets with regular/s/ component video. I doubt you will find one offers DVI.
