From what I can tell the HTR 5790 is exactly the same as the RX-V1400. Is this true?

Are there any differences that anyone see's or knows?

Does the HTR have the Dolby Pro Logic IIx?

Please someone answer me, this is killing me to know if there any differences. I sure can't tell.

Have you checked Yamaha's website? Typically, Yamaha changes one or two features with the HTR series so that they're not exactly the same as the RX-V models. This time around, the HTR-5790 has a completely different front panel from the RX-V1400, but as far as I know they are identical underneath -- same amp, same processors, same connections. Any other differences, I'm not sure about.

For the longest time, the HTR and RX-V series were identical. I believe it was only the last two model lines that had minor differences, usually the HTR line losing pre-outs to the comparable RX-V model.
The 5790 and 1400 are funcionally identical, run a word comparison of both user manuals and you'll find those to be letter for letter identical as well, the only exception being the model numbers and pictures of the front faceplates.
MSRP is also the same, whereas the previous RX-V1300 and HTR-5590 had a difference of $40 or $50.
The RX-V650 and HTR-5760 look pretty darn identical to me as well when I ran the comparison of the manuals. I haven't looked at the back side of the HTR-5760 thoroughly yet, though.

They are the same except the front bezel. Someone already mentioned that the big box retailers sell the HTR line and the specialty stores the RX line, so Yamaha can offer the specialists a more exclusive line to sell. You'd want to be assured of a valid warranty before getting either one.
