View Full Version : Need some Turntable help
I'm a Home Theater guy that wants to rediscover my LP's. I dug out two turntables I have: Pioneer PL 250 and a Pioneer PL 450. I'm not sure which one I should clean up and use. The 250 is heavy and has a 1/2 mount and a solid platter, the 450 is light and has a P-mount.
I would think the 450 is a newer model but newer doesn't always mean better. Hoping someone can give me some guidance.
Thanks

...I'd opt for the PL250...I just like the looks of it better...never really into p-mounts...the only info I could glean from the web was a picture of each and the following on the 250 @ a vintage site: Direct-drive, semi-auto with pitch control and strobe...as a musician the pitch control is important to me...
Addendum: Just discovered the 450 is a belt-drive unit, normally I prefer BD over DD, but the pitch still wins out IMO...

Thanks for the information. I didn't even realize the 250 was direct dirve -- I know the 450 is belt driven does would that make a difference to you?
just saw your addendum -- thanks
