What benefit would I get from a receiver that has 192 kHz/24-BIT DAC'S versus one with 96khz/24bit DAC's? Also, how good are Burr-Brown DAC compared to standard ones?

Good question...My receiver has a 192kHz/24 Bit DAC, I don't think I ever use that potential because most of my sources (CD, DVD) are lower bit, lower sampling rate. I think on a few DVD-A's I use 96/24 kHz, I don't think either or my DVD-A's have 192kHz tracks on them.

If nothing else, I'll post to have this thread "bumped", hopefully someone like Sir Terrance or Skeptic or someone can explain this for us.
For what it's worth, I hope the DAC isn't the only reason you're looking at upgrading your receiver though, I'm 99% sure it's not going to make THAT big a difference in sound quality.

IMO, there really is not much benefit in having 24/192khz DAC's. First, you don't really get 24 bit performance from them in practice. Most supposidly 24 bit dac can get no better than 20 bit performance. Especially 24 bit dacs in recievers. Secondly there are very few recording made with a 192khz sampling rate(the ones I have heard sound top notch though)

I think in. 95% of multichannel audio applications, high quality 24/96khz DACs are all you need.
