RCA Phono Input

I am thinking of purchasing a dual channel amp that has XLR, 1/4", and RCA phono inputs. I will be using one channel to drive my passive subwoofer and the other to drive my center channel. It has a separate volume control for each channel. My receiver has RCA preouts. Here is a link to the amp:

My question is are the preouts on my receiver compatable with the RCA phono on the amp or do I need some type of up/down converter? Also, has anyone heard of this amp before. Thanks, Paul.

Well, it LOOKS normal enough. In that case, I would "assume" that your basic line level signal, as would be output from your preamp/receiver, would be sufficient to drive this thing via it's RCA line level input jacks. Again, lacking specs it's just a guess, but an educated one.

"These are compatible with the low-impedance,
unbalanced or balanced, line-level outputs typically
emanating from equipment such as mixers,
synthesizers, samplers, direct boxes, crossovers, etc.
Electric guitars, microphones, and other lowlevel/
high-impedance output devices require a
preamp."

I'm assuming that my preouts on my receiver are like line-level outputs on a mixer, etc.?

It seems so. The volume control affects the pre-outs (but does not affect tape outs), and a volume control is an attenuator. Your receiver's pre-outs are probably low impedance (in this context, well below 1000 ohms) and the line level inputs of the amp probably have an input impedance of 10,000 ohms or higher. It is generally accepted that the input impedance should be at least 10 times the output impedance and most equipment is built that way. Anyway, the owner's manuals should give the input and output impedances.

I bought a peavey mixer/amp off ebay and it wouldn't drive my subwoofer through any of the inputs. It would drive my mic and my left/right preouts from my receiver but for some reason wouldn't drive the sub. I sold it at a lose of $23.00 to a sound engineer who loved me for it. So I'm being cautious this time around so that I don't end up with something that I can't use again :-).
