1. Tiny Volcano - Mary Goes Around
Well, it certainly is innocuous, no? Hey, I thought drug use was supposed to lend interesting, creative, original lyrics? Oh wait, these must just be stoner dudes. Nevermind.
2. Riddle Of Steel - Kissing In Secret
It's not bad but doesn't really hold my interest either.
3. American Analog Set - Come Home Baby Julie, Come Home
I can listen to this. In fact, it gets better with each spin. Reminds me a lot of DCfC in that it's simple and repetitive yet still finds a way to draw me in.
4. Mae - Tisbury Lane
Hey, Finchey manages to pull one out of his a<a>ss, even if by accident :p Catchy pop vocal phrasing often gets me. It kinda goes nowhere after a while but I still like it.
5. The Wrens - Hopeless
I've called this my favorite song of 2003 in the past and if you can't hear why you might as well click on the next thread now. Sums up angry, hurt feelings better than mailing nude Polaroids to her parents ever could ;)
6. Electrelane - This Deed
Yeah, I like it. Sounds kinda like a blend of Cat Power and The White Stripes.
7. +/- - Meglomaniac
Another winner here. Singer has a very slight Chris Cornell-ish thing going on but without going over-the-top. Good stuff that I need to hear more of.
8. Spiritualized - She Kissed Me (It Felt Like A Hit)
I'm pretty neutral on this one. It doesn't make me want to further investigate but I'm not reaching for the track-skip button either.
9. Tantric - The Chain
A trainwreck indeed. If they can do this to a well-crafted pop song I can only cringe at the thought of hearing one of their originals.
10. Chain - First Life
Here we go :o I can feel the muscles of my alimentary canal beginning to go into spasm and the churning bile trying to ascend and escape post haste. Wasn't punk (or disco, even) supposed to have killed off this spewfest 25 or 30 years ago?
11. RPWL - Opel
Well, I find Porcupine Tree bland and unimaginative so I guess no more needs to be said, since this sounds just like them and hundreds of other bands.
12. Sun Kil Moon - Si Paloma
Haven't really fully absorbed this one yet but it sounds pleasant enough. Need some vocals to see SKM will stick or not, I guess.
13. The Handsome Family - 24 Hour Store
A little too country for my tastes but I have to admit it's starting to grow on me.
14. Damien Rice - Volcano
I'm enjoying this one quite a bit and have to dig through my old comps to see if I have anymore. Who's the female singer?
15. The Twilight Babies - Orange And The Alabaster
I'm diggin' this one too. Does this band have anything to do with the Twilight Singers?
16. Julian Coryell - Save Yourself
This is cool too. Gotta see if I can download some more samples. Comp ends very strong IMO.
Nice work, JD :)
