Never paid much attention to Beck. Decided to try his newest LP "Morning Phase" due to many positive comments on vinyl recording quality. Played it last night and was so impressed, played it again first thing this morning. Listened to other recordings of his on Youtube last night and no two are the same. Guero is on its way - latin and hip hop influences - appears to be a double lp recorded at 45 rpm.

I am probably preaching to the choir but I think Morning Phase will become a standard in Pop/ Rock after many others have come and gone.

I've been a fan (sort of) since Mellow Gold waaaaaay back in 1994. I don't think he's had many missteps and some of it is near-genius.

That being said, you're missing what is probably his best record; Odelay from 1996. I'm pretty sure most critics would agree, but music is a personal thing so...

My son turned me on to Beck. If you like Morning Phase then I highly recommend you pick up Sea Change.

Yeah, man. Beck is pretty cool. Agree with thekid that you'd probably like Sea Change if you like Morning Phase. Also, I agree with Swish that Odelay is his best record - big chunks of it are still great. Although I have Beck 45s, One Foot in the Grave, Stereo Pathetic Soul Manure, the Bongload LP releases of Mellow Gold and Odelay and other fanboy stuff, I failed to pick up Guero (thanks for the reminder) and I was unable to get into Modern Guilt until after seeing him live. Here are some crappy cell phone pics from the cheap seats:

Don't forget to check the cutout bins at the record store. I'm there now, and there are quite a few Beck discs under a beck, err buck.

Just listened to Guero on 45lp. Despite having to flip twice as often definitely worth it. This is a sonically rich ear treat.
