My neighbor has a Technics SL-B300 turntable that he has not used in 20 years. He's recently gotten the itch to play LPs again due to my budding obsession with the antiquated form of media. We replaced the cartridge with the help of the fine folks at Jerry Raskin's Needle Doctor. Now the table won't spin. My guess is that the belt has degraded due to lack of any use over the past 20 years. I guess that my question is how hard is it to replace the drive belt on this particular turntable? I'm pretty handy, but have not had the chance to open the unit up and take a look.

Hi, budding,

You might be able to get an SL-B300 instruction manual here ... Technics SL-B300 Manual - 2-Speed Belt-Drive Turntable - Vinyl Engine (http://www.vinylengine.com/library/technics/sl-b300.shtml) ... looks like you have to register for a membership but that's free.

LPGear among other suppliers have belts. look up by make/model, usually less than $20.
