Compliments of Audioholics, "5 Reasons Dolby Atmos May Be DOA (http://www.audioholics.com/audio-technologies/5-reasons-dolby-atmos-is-doa)"

I can relate to the too expensive part, and it would be hard for me to place speakers to good effect in my restricted space. Beyond that, it remains to be seen.

How many people even have 7.1 systems today?

I have two 7.1 systems in a dedicated family/home theater room. If I heard and enjoyed Atmos, it would be no problem to add four ceiling mounted speakers and I have a multi-channel amp I could use. The processor's cost and effects would need to be reasonable enough to justify it.

I definitely have the room now that I am in my new house but do bot have the desire to put that many channels in my room. Being more of a 2 channel guy and having the theater as a secondary importance makes me put more of my efforts into 2 channel. I think with sound bars getting to be so popular now it seems to me that having to buy new equipment every time you turn around to decode the newest codecs out there is getting old to most people. Just my opinion.

Good God, I wish those guys would stop trying to get into my pocket. Dolby Atmos is just what we need, NOT!

What Feanor failed to mention(as usual) it that Audioholics article did not address the actual merits of installing the system, nor have they actually heard it. Atmos is not for the Feanor types who have no desire to upgrade their home theater system. It is not made for the masses. It is made for the HT enthusiast that values performance, and spatial accuracy relative to the source. They are willing to pay to get the best performance from a given product, not settle for anything less. Atmos does not have to be a mass market product to actually succeed in the market. It just has to reach those that will embrace new technology, and build a system from there.

So, as a balance look at the reviews of those who have actually heard it.

Not quite the doom and gloom for those who have actually heard it, versus those who have not. I take actually listening experience over assumptive theory.

They don't get into your pocket if you don't want the product. It is just that simple. Those who want the product will willingly open their wallets to the product.

Force versus choice.

Not to say this is impartial, but it is certainly a 180 degree perspective from the original article, from the original site.

It is WAY too soon to make any prediction on how Atmos will pan out in the market, but certainly the videophiles will quickly adapt this techonlogy to their dedicated home theater system; the Atmos thread on AVSforum.com certainly proves this.

The tech most certainly works(I have now heard 5 demos of it), and now it is all about folks taking advantage of it. Based on this experience, I have adopted two rooms to this technology, and I have even been satisfied by the upmix technology that is out there right now for those of us who have invested earlier in upgradeable processors to handle the full blown Atmos home theater(34.1 channels - 24 on the floor, 10 overhead, and a single LFE channel on distributed subs).

So, you're not quite ready for migrating to a 34.1 system? :)

Not many people are. I don't think I will have a 34.1 system EVER. It does not take that many channels for Atmos to work properly, it is just a best case scenario.
