James Garner probably was one of most versatile actor in Hollywood as he was comfortable in movies as well as in TV. His TV show Maverik being his step stone to greater fame.

His quick wit and maneuverability to get out of sticky situtaions was his trade mark which made his TV show such as Maverik and Rockford File a hit.

He did more variety and serious roles in movies, but non equal in movies where it shows his funny and witty side such as film Support Your Local Sheriff. Very funny and entertaining film.

RIP (1928-2014)

I agree, I liked JG very much. Support Your Local Sheriff & Local Gunfighter are classics, also started another favorite of mine, Harry Morgan. I love the sceen in My Fello americans where the one ex-president, I think Richard Dreyfus, says, "didn't your mom teach you to wash your hands", Garner's character, also an ex-president, says, "no, she taught me not to piss on my hands". Another favorite of mine is Murphy's Romance. As good as some actors are today, or should I say, Popular, I don't see any that will be rememorable to me as Garner and some of the other greats we lost.
