Preamps, power amps, and tuners?

i have just got a quote for a sound system that contains 10 speakers, one sub, a cd player aswell as a pre amplifier and a power amplifier. i was just wondering if anyone could explain why the two amps and the cd player? and any other info that would be relevant, so when talk to the guy again dont get taken for a ride.

An integrated Amp is a Pre Amp and Amp together
A Receiver add a Tuner to above

Separates would be a standalone Pre-Amp and a Standalone Amp

If you care to share the gear list, we could comment further on what you are looking at.
