So I picked up a used but in good condition yamaha rx-v392 receiver to hook up my turntable. I have a pair of Bose bookshelf 4 ohm - 8 ohms 10 to 90 watts. When I hook up the turntable to the phone out and hook the speakers up the sound is HORRIBLE to say the least. No matter the combo I try it sounds BAD. I changed the inputs of the turntable to the CD input and the sound is much better but not very 'full' still kinda tin can sounding. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Do you have the ground wire of the TT hooked up? Are the phono cables or cartridge bad? Is the cartridge moving coil or moving magnet? Get some deoxit or tuner cleaner and clean the RCA inputs for the phono preamp on the Yammy. It is worth a try.

The phono preamp may be bad in the Yammy. If so, you will need an external phono preamp like this-
