I found a strange looking fuse inside my CD/DVD player while I was lubricating the transport. Said fuse is simply a familiar glass fuse about a half-inch long with a strand of thin wire inside. The strange part is that in the middle of the wire is a tiny metallic blob - like a 1mm bead of solder. I have seen many glass fuses in my time, but never one like this. Is this normal? Is it some kind of freakish manufacturing defect? I removed the fuse and replaced it with a conventional one. The player is working just fine.
Is this the same thing as a ferrite bead fuse (a term that I happened upon just now)?
