So i have a couple cerwin vega's and an external;l 15" sub woofer. Its an audiosource sw-15 and i did some mods to it to make it sound better. Anyways, even after the mods it doesnt sound even near as good as my JBL 10 that i have in terms of crispness and tight bass. So i was thinking about stepping down from the 15" and going for a 12". I want something that sounds great with music seeing as thats all i'm using it for. Any recommendations?? Thanks guys

It very much depends on how much you have budgeted for a sub. I would say that used you would be able to get more for your money, maybe from audiogon.com or other sites. As far as models and brands that come to mind I would say that if music is going to be what it is used for and not movies then something like a REL or Martin Logan would be good sense they seem to be built more for music than movies and would be tighter. I have a JBL but I have heavily modified the cabinet so that it performs on a different level from a stock unit and I really could not recommend one it stock form. The REL and ML have subwoofers that start relatively cheap and go up to very expensive in 12" models so you should be able to find something to work for you.

With out knowing your budget here are a few recommendations-

Product Category Name (http://www.hsuresearch.com/subwoofers.html)

High Performance - Subwoofers - Home Theater - SVS (http://www.svsound.com/subwoofers)

MartinLogan - Dynamo 700 - Wireless Capable Subwoofer-Audio Advisor (http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=MLDYN700)

I prefer non ported subs for their nice tight bass for music. But that is just a matter of personal preference. There are a lot of very good ported subs.

Rythmik Audio • Servo subwoofer products (http://www.rythmikaudio.com/products.html)

The Rythmik subs above are a great deal and are excellent subs.

What is your budget and room size? If you are on a tight budget, then I would recommend going with a better 10" sub than a cheaper 12". You will get better bass.
