Yeah, very shocking news considering that Tony Scott had carved out a decent niche for himself directing big budget action movies, and has been Denzel Washington's go-to director. Plus, he also runs a successful production company with his brother.

It's not like Scott had a string of box office flops (his last movie, Unstoppable, did well at the box office and received mostly good reviews) or had no projects lined up (in addition to TV productions, he was supposedly working on a Top Gun sequel). Obviously, there's a lot more to this story that will trickle out over the next few weeks.

It is said that he had inoperable brain cancer. Sounds like he didn't want him or his family to suffer.

news had it, that he's had been battling an (inoperable) brain cancer for some time now, so that might have been the clincher

Oh man, that does clear up a lot of what he was thinking when made this decision. Very unfortunate all the way around.
