Speaking of wacky amplifier designs, check out the Blue Circle NSL (http://www.bluecircle.com/page70.html) power amp ...

The output stage consists of 288 paralleled opamps and it's battery operated. ... :out:

Gilbert Yeung, the Blue Circle designer & principal, has a long history: maybe he's finally certifiable.

Note the traditional Blue Circle use of silicone cement on this prototype ...

Looks like Gilbert had some excess inventory and too much spare time. :)

What a monstrosity. I like the 2 tone stain on the wood case though.

I wonder what it sounds like?
Listening to a chorus of hundreds of op amps is not what my audio dreams are made of.

The name escapes me like much of the 80's but there was an amp, vetical in design, that had multiple output transistors and a large number of small capacitors for each tranisistor. The amp received some good reviews. The idea was that a number of smaller storage capacitors could respond faster than a few large ones.

There are any number of designs, both SS and tube alike, which use banks of smaller capacitors in its power supply. That approach lowers the effective series resistance (ESR).

Audio Research (http://www.arcdb.ws/REF610T/REF610T.html) takes this approach along with ASR (http://www.asraudio.de/Epdf/IEEmitter2VerHQ.pdf).
