Hello to everyone. I am considering MG 12's. They look to be a perect compromise between size and sound in the planar speakers. I have prepared my wife for the purchase. I owned MMG's before and my son in law now owns them. I am a generous ..........fool.
Anyway, I was thinking about how I am going to be pretty much out of money after getting the speakers so I though about the NAD 150W integrated amp. 1500 or so would be about the most I want to spend on an amp. Over the years I have had NAD products and I always liked them. Does anyone have any other ideas for a suitable planar amp in that range?
Phono board not a must since I am outboard with the phono pre.
cheers dk

I am so impressed with my Krell S-300i and it is a 150/300 watt into 8/4 ohm. $2500 list so I do not know how it compares price wise with the NAD. Beautiful sound and great power.

I've always thought of Krell as unobtanium. 2,500 is a very nice price. I shall consider it. thanks.

Well, I've driven MMGs with slightly older NAD C260 power amp and was initially please but have heard several better power amps since.
Currently I'm using a Class D Audio SDS series amp and a Jolida passive preamp with excellent results. Some thing like these would be a sound option, IMO ...
Jolida JD50A (http://www.jolida.net/jolida%20preamplifier.htm) passive preamp, $300:

Class D Audio SDS-250C (http://classdaudio.com/complete-amplifiers/custom-built-amplifiers/sds-250c-class-d-audio-power-amplifier.html) power amplfier, $600:

This combo will easily bring you into Krell territory for <$1000.

very good call with class d audio power amp. I have the 440c which is more powerful at 440 wpc at 4 ohm and it has more power than I will ever use most likely and has the smoothest most detailed sound I have ever heard in my system.

My local Magnepan dealer who sells mainly high end gear, with NAD being their mid fi gear routinely pairs the MG12's and 1.6's with NAD gear and they sound very good together. I would stongly consider the Class D Audio amps that others have recommended. I use a Class D Audio CDA-254 with a pair of MMG's and have tried it with my 1.6's, The sound is very good. You will need a decent preamp to go with it. Something with a slightly warmer sound. I use a Grant Fidelity DAC-11 tube preamp/dac combo with my MMG's. For $350 it is hard to beat.

If you don't need remote control, options become more plentiful, e.g. the Grand Fidelity

I'd be careful with the Krell. I enjoy that particular piece and the Krell sound in general but my experience with an all Krell front end and planars (or electrostats) was not pleasing. I found the results to be harsh---and I'm a fan of resolution and detail...ymmv

Now I am curious to hear my S-300i paired with some Maggies. I have read some things about earlier Krell int. amp that did not sound like I would enjoy them but the S-300i is sounding great to me.
