View Full Version : Embedding YT videos
I went back into the archives and found posts of mine with enbedded YT videos, but I can't figure out how to do it now, and the FAQ doesn't address embedded vids. Has something changes or did I just forget how? I'm selecting the embedded url, right click/copy/paste in the text window - what am I missing?
Other websites its just so much easier.

It might not be this website. Which code are you copying? YouTube changed their dealio up a bit; after hitting "Share" one must decide between "Embed" and "Email". The code that appears initially is not the embed code.

1. Click "share"
2. Click "embed". Embed code will open up under the "embed" button.
3. Copy embed code
4. Paste code here.

"I'm going to show you how to embed a You Tube video onto your blog, or more simply said, How to put a You Tube video onto your blog".
Thanks for simplifying that that Katie! LOL!
1. Click "share"
2. Click "embed". Embed code will open up under the "embed" button.
3. Copy embed code
4. Paste code here.
and I get this

Play the video and do a right click on it and choose 'Copy embed html' instead of the method you used. I chose this one because I never tire of watching Nels soloing.
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/rPAbjNT7nQY?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/rPAbjNT7nQY?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>
I'll give that a shot Swishy when I get home later, thanks. Funny, this came up a few years back, and I shot a PM or two Adam's way, never heard anything back, but all of a sudden, it worked one day. Now it doesn't.
I always select the option to use Old Code

and here's trying Swish's way
is there some html tag I'm missing?
So, who would I contact about this? I can't send Adam a PM.

that doesn't work for me either
does it have to do with my browser?

I'm not sure that this is something that Adam can help you with. Since you seem to be the only person having the problem I think it's a safe assumption that the problem has something to do with your computer and not this site.
Why can't you send Adam a PM?
Can you post the URL to the video that you're trying to imbed and let me see if I can do it? That'll help determine whether the problem is you, the site, or the video.

When I tried sending him a PM, it said he was not accepting PMs.

Dude. It's you.
Dude. It's you.
I doubt its my computer. Its the same computer I was using the last time I was able to post a video. I was wondering if it was something in my account, since this came up before, I inquired about it, then it got resolved. I mean, some things don't always quite work the way they should, like trying to jump from one forum to another, try to PM Adam and getting a message saying he isn't accepting PMs and so on.
I updated my browser a while back, could that be the reason? Any help is appreciated. Thanks to all who've responded so far.

Does the code above that I pasted to display your video show up with your browser? If so, can you copy and then paste it in your reply so I know exactly what you started with, and then I can see how it is changing for you after it is parsed by the software here. For me, and others, it isn't changed at all. When you look at the bottom left of this page does it say "HTML code is ON" for you?

not exactly sure what you were asking, so I responded a couple of different ways, but yes, it says HTML code is ON
<IFRAME height=360 src="<a href=" width=640 target="_blank" embed BVRYD7PZhug?feature='player_embedded"' YouTube - Broadcast Yourself. (http://www.youtube.com) http:>YouTube - Broadcast Yourself" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></IFRAME>
I right clicked on that video, selected 'Copy Embed HTML', and this is how it looks
I can see and play everyone elses videos, so my version of adobe player or whatever is OK, right?

Well, it looks like the line you copied still has the tags I put around it to keep it from being interpreted as HTML, so I think you may have hit the reply button first.
But that's OK, when you are trying to embed it yourself, it comes out like below with a whole bunch of extra audioreview and youtube stuff added in ...
<xmp><IFRAME height=360 src="http://forums.audioreview.com/<a href=" width=640 target="_blank" embed BVRYD7PZhug?feature='player_embedded"' <a href="http://www.youtube.com" target="_blank">YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.</a> http:>YouTube - Broadcast Yourself" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></IFRAME></xmp>
Whereas if I do what you just described, I get only what is expected ...
<xmp><iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/BVRYD7PZhug?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></xmp>
So maybe you have some media application that is doing it. I doubt it's the software here. But you should be able to do what you did above with the "right click->copy embed html" and then paste it someplace to see whether it looks like the first example or the second example I have above. If it looks like the first, then your phone is doing it. If it looks like the second, then AR is doing it.
<XMP><iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/BVRYD7PZhug" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></XMP></PRE>
like this?
I'm doing this on my computer at home. I'm copying the line as I see it, and posting it in the text, the I hit reply, right?

I guess, but it looks like you must be clicking the quote button and then copying what AR gives you because I don't know how else you would get the extra tags that I put there since they don't show up in the display window of my post.

Oh, I see now, you are copying a little more than just that one line so it's picking up the formatting. I just wanted you to copy from the first < to the last > and nothing more, then paste that text into your reply and see what happens. Or just type it in. But yea, it's probably time to move on now :)

I just wanted you to copy from the first < to the last > and nothing more, then paste that text into your reply and see what happens. I'll try again when I get home. Yes, I did highlight the entire line but nothing else, just as it appears and I didn't use the quote function.

Well, I guess this was the wrong approach because you are copying the xmp tags with it when you highlight the whole line. Just quote the same message of yours that I did here and you will see the XMP tags around both the iframe line and your testing line. Only copy from iframe to iframe, don't copy the xmp tags. Then paste it and preview your post and see if the video shows up. It should unless AR is changing the code based on your account or something running on your end.
That's all I've got.
which part of that line are the XMP tags?<>?

Really? It's the part that says XMP. See picture below - this is what I see when I quote your post above ...

As you can see in the Jim Carrol thread I ressurected, it did once work for me, using the same computer. I don't see anything that says XMP on anything you posted. I'm not sure to make of what you're seeing from my end.
wow, I'm so not seeing on my home computer what I'm seeing on a different computer. I have no idea where to go now. Geez... I don't see that picture you posted at all Davy on my PC or my phone, but I do see it on another computer.

I guess it is my computer. I have no idea what the problem is.
