LG HDTV, most reliable brand

According to PCWorld 2011 Reliability and Service survey of some 63,000 PCWorld readers, they gave LG sets high marks for ease of use and reliability (along with Panasonic), as well as for features such as connection ports and the remote control.

Survey participants' ratings of HDTV manufacturers were two general areas: reliability and features.

Reliability
Four HDTV vendors received better-than-average marks on two of our four reliability measures: Both LG and Panasonic won kudos for "any significant problems" and "overall satisfaction with reliability"; Magnavox drew praise for its record on "problem on arrival" and "severe problem"; and Sharp distinguished itself on "any significant problem" and "severe problem."

The oddball result on this chart relates to Samsung, which received one of two worse-than-average marks (for "severe problem") assigned to a vendor and yet scored one of only three better-than-average marks (along with LG and Panasonic) for "overall satisfaction with reliability."

Features
On our features measures for HDTV manufacturers, LG, Samsung, and Sony were the stars. LG chalked up better-than-average marks on five of the eight criteria, including the only plus score on the chart for "warranty." At the bottom of the heap, with two negatives and no positives, are a clutch of vendors: Insignia, JVC, Philips, and Westinghouse. Still, no manufacturer scored exceptionally poorly on features.

Normally I would have scoffed at the the thought of buying an LG but after the issues I've had with my Panasonic HDTV (first high def tv for me) I would certainly be more inclined to give one a try.

I have never had problems with my Sony TVs. I still use one that is 26 years old with a digital converter box and the PQ is very good. A 42" that is over 10 and a 32" going on 5.

I did get my in laws an LG tho since the Sonys cost more. No issues with it at all.

I had a 25" Magnavox tube TV that gave me problems a few decades back. Aside from that, I've never had any problems with TVs. And I've owned plenty brands/models.

Different story when it comes to laptops and computers, though.

I also had plenty of TV brand/models through out the years (including LG brand which used to be called Goldstar), and the only one that went out on me was 27 inch Panasonic TV after 3 years of usage.

Samsung LCD TVs probably would have ranked higher in PCWolrld readers poll in terms of reliabilty, but faulty capacitor in their power supply did hurt their reputation.

Having just spent 3 days at a Hilton hotel, I can now say that I have some experience, albeit limited, with a LG LCD...and it was pretty crappy. The hotel desk clerk insisted that it was a recent upgrade, but 42" and "new" or not, I wasn't impressed with the PQ at all. Didn't get the model #, but I'm hoping and praying that LG delivers 1000000 times better quality on the models that are being raved about in the article.
