This free standing center channel speaker stand is an alteration of the TNT Stubby speaker stand ( linked below ) using one 36"X10" for the top shelf and one 36"X8" cut in half for the bottom feet. These black shelves can be found at HD or Lowes. As with the Stubby design I used two threaded rods with nuts and two lengths of black spray painted 3" PVC. These can be sand filled depending on how strong your TV stand is. The two stand feet extend under the TV pedestal and provide good support for heavy center speaker.

IMO center speakers sound better when positioned above the screen and angled downwards. I plan to raise the rear of the speaker with rubber wedges.

Glad to know everyone already has their own solution to high mounting a center channel speaker. I'm wasting my efforts here.

No you're NOT alone. I've put in a lot of HT's over the years and as the LCD's have gotten taller and slimmer... the idea of what to do has vexed me in many situations. My solution is, if the center channel is beefy enough, put the TV on it, If the CC is small and slim enough NOT to block the screen, I'll but it on the stand in tront of it. Worst comes to worse, I'll go to the local furniture outlet and buy a cheap wooden flower pot stand, if they've any the right size. It's not metal speaker stands filled with led shot but it'll do.

Worf.

Haven't needed to top mount the center since the days of the 27" Sony WEGA tube tv and Gusdorf cabinet. Ahh, those were the days!

I now have a low profile sofa sectional without any obstructions (i.e., no coffee table) between the seated position and the display and front+main speakers, so placing the center speaker on the tv cabinet shelf below the plasma works perfectly. Besides, I'm a little leary of putting anything atop the plasma. My Center Stage only weighs 22 pounds, but I live in earthquake country. Taking no chances.

The 55" plasma pictured here is thin and incapable of supporting a speaker. The stand does not touch the TV but sits a quarter of an inch behind it. I had the speaker on the top shelf of the stand just below the screen but didn't care for the sound. Few TV stands will even accept large speakers on their equipment shelves. A center speaker mounted above the screen just sounds better to me.
