Watched Super 8 last night and this is one of the best movies of late to really test your HT sound. The opening Train Crash scene is killer and should make you feel like you are right in the middle of it. Things are flying thru the air, behind you, in front of you, and from both sides.

Other scenes in the movie had such great sound that I jumped several times as the sound came at me from back to front.

LOTR movies also have great sound but I think the Train Crash far outweighs 10,000 stomping Orcs.

What other movies let you know just how good your HT really is, or isn't? Anyone agree with Super 8 as a good test?

Just saw this movie and was really surprised by the surround mix. This should be a must see for every Home Theater buff with a 5.1 / 7.1 system using **high powered subwoofers. Super8 seemed to have a dynamic range that was equal to or better than anything else that I have seen. Like Hyfi referred to, I also jumped a couple of times because the movie's surround effects and I'm guessing you will also. Somebody knew what they were doing!

** absolutely required for high levels of bass

Yep, watched it last week. Can't say I would have enjoyed it as much had it not been for Bluray disk, big screen and 5.1 surround sound.
Enjoyed it thoroughlly.

Love the battle scene in Gladiator and all the Matrix DVD's.

I finially picked this up and watched it, the story line was a bit thin, but E.T. needed an update :)

The BD was top notch even for the night scenes and tunnel/cave shots. I was surprise that is was only 5.1 and not 7.1. The train derailment/accident was a bit over the top but made for good entertainment. The sound difference between the train accident and dialog was hard to re-adjust afterwards (the train accident was over the top loud, then the dialog seemed extra low) may have been the human condition of hearing a loud sound then everything else needs to be boosted up a little for our ears to catch up.

I watched Captain America right after Super 8 and found it more pleasent and enjoyable. the 7.1 soundtrack added so much more depth to what was happening on the screen.

I rented Super 8 because I had read that it was a first-class test of a surround system...they didn't lie. I was so excited to experience the mayhem that I MAY have cranked the volume up a little more than normal. All was well until the train wreck. Great Googlie Mooglie!!! I thought for sure that I had shredded my speakers! I have been running test tones through them ever since, and, so far, no ill effects have been detected. Thank God for the metal mid-woofs and tweeters of the MA B2's. I doubt that conventional cones would have survived.

They really need to post a warning label on the set-up program: "Do not play this movie at excessive volumes. Failure to heed this warning could result in much cursing and gnashing of teeth."

Yes, but the 7.1 mix really sucked. Hardly anything from the surround back speakers. It was much better as a 5.1 mix.
