hello again everybody, its been a while since i have posted on here, i bought some new speakers a while ago and i need some advice.

i bought some paradigm mini monitors for my bedroom and they will be going on my dresser and im wondering what would be a cheap and effective way to reduce vibration and possibly improve sound quality for cheap. thanks

If your looking for a real cheap solution, go to a stationary store and buy some 'Blue Tack' or similar product. It is like a slightly sticky putty. Put a little blob under each corner. Of course you could use a cork or neoprene pad also.

Are you trying to anchor or isolate? I've used vibrapods, "little feet" sorbothane and split racquetballs for isolation. Blue Tac is the only product I've used for anchoring bookshelf speakers to stands. It all depends on if you think the speakers will cause anything on the dresser to vibrate.

I use the Herbies square fat dots between the bottom of the speaker and speaker stand. However, the speaker vibration itself overall I can't tell the difference and I don't audibly hear a difference so maybe my hearing ain't too good afterall.

Sorbothane feet and some sound absorbing material directly under the speaker like a piece of carpet that you can cut to the size of the bottom of the speaker. Carpet covered floor mats with the rubber backing work well and can easily be cut to size. I use this with my Monitor Audio S1's on a dresser in our bedroom.

The thicker the better. You can put 2-3 pieces under the speaker. Take a look at carpet type floor rugs that have the rubber backing. Like the ones for kitchen and bath. I would still use sorbothane feet though.

I like the carpet idea or use some kind of foam/rubber.

I cut up cork placemats from Ikea to deaden resonance. They are only a few bucks for a pack of four. I deadened the backs of my open baffle speakers with two packs.

Spoken like a true Canadian!

I work very closely with 2 Canadians and they are always telling me Canadian jokes!

You can't find a hockey puck in South Carolina :-)

Ikea cork placemats cut to fit, and placed on top of Corian slabs should do it. Go to a countertop specialist and have him cut you two "cutting boards" to X size. It shouldn't be much more than $30, at most.

Of course, the more solid the furniture (solid oak vs. say....Ikea), the more minimal the resonance.

for much cheaper Sorbothane solutions than any high priced little feet, go to McMaster Carr or similar industrial supplier and buy a 1/2 inch thick 1' x 1' sheet and carefully cut it into 2" squares with a straight edge and razor knife.

I have replaced all my gear's feet with these.
