We saw Elbow in Toronto, at The Sound Academy last Wednesday night. What a great show! Guy Garvey is a great front man and really knows how to talk to and connect with an audience.

This is the 2nd time we've seen Elbow. The first was a couple of years ago when they opened for Coldplay in a sold-out venue that holds 50,000 people! This was at a small club that holds a couple of thousand. Whether they are playing to 50,000 or 2,000 Guy makes the show feel intimate.

The band was awesome! The sound was the best that I've ever heard in this venue. They played about 2/3 of The Seldom Seen Kid, about 2/3 of Build a Rocket Boys! and two songs (Starlings and Great Expectations) from Leaders of the Free World.

Attached is the setlist from setlist.fm - the setlist wiki (http://www.setlist.fm).

The Birds
The Bones of You
Mirrorball
Neat Little Rows
Grounds for Divorce
The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver
Great Expectations
The Night Will Always Win
Puncture Repair
The River
(Just keyboard and vocals)
Lippy Kids
Weather to Fly
Open Arms

Encore:
Starlings
Station Approach
One Day Like This

This band really knows how to entertain. While many of their recorded songs are a bit slow and on the mellow side, they up the tempo live and can really rock the tunes. If you have a chance to catch them live do it.

My only disappointment of the evening was that there was no merch table. I walked in with money in my pocket earmarked for a t-shirt, but it was not to be. (deep sigh).

This was the best show that I've seen this year, so far. :)
