Speaker Selector

I was give for free a Niles MSA-10 speaker selector for free and I have never used one before! I read the manual book online and I figured it out! I check the price for that particular model and they go for hundreds and I am wondering why are they so expensive, it is just a speaker selector?

I imagine the unit does more than just switching. Most I've seen also provide impedance matching and protection so driving multiple speaker pairs simultaneously won't burn out the amplifier.
