I noticed a moment ago that my post count just hit 770 (well, I'm wrecking it with this post), the frequency of my favorite radio station in Minneapolis, 770 AM Radio K. That's KUOM out of the University of Minnesota, which has been solid ever since I was a kid but has been forced over the last six years to become a real niche station with the entry of another "independent" music station into our market, Minnesota Public Radio's 89.3 The Current. I really don't care for that station, but by monopolizing the more accessible side of independent music, it's made Radio K become a lot more experimental and better for it. Plenty of electronica, punk, and world music, awkward DJs, that AM sound, and oh yeah, tons of request hours! Viva Radio K!
I also love to listen to
89.9 KMOJ "The People's Station" - old school R&B community radio
90.3 KFAI "Fresh Air Radio" - community radio with lots of world music, reggae, roots, zydeco, etc. (+ Democracy Now!)
88.5 KBEM "Jazz and Traffic" - listener-supported jazz and Bluegrass Saturday Mornings
There are other stations worth giving a shout-out to in Minneapolis (especially on the AM dial), but those are the only ones I can claim to honestly listen to on a regular basis so I'll stop there.
Okay, now you go!
