I was curious as to how a product is brought to market that is sold under different brand names. As example the Mobile Fidelity OML1's, Von Schweikert VR1's and the LSA1's which seem to be the same basic design with input from the manufacturer. I know Mo Fi voiced the OML1 and chose an angled front baffle. The VR1 has his ideas on crossovers and is singled wired.

What I am wondering about is did a speaker builder in China market this speaker to the above mentioned companies or were they shopping for a speaker at a price point? Unlike the Dussun int. amp that was a bargain and rebadged as Red Rose for a huge increase in price the speakers were all fairly priced.

Any info about how this process works would be appreciated.

STUDIED this for years, and there are different answers.
BASICALLY it varies from a place to send B stock to two
companies ordering a product from the same place.
A FRIEND went everywhere a few years ago looking for a boombox for work. DIDN'T have the heart to tell him that they were all the same with minor cosmetic differences.
THEY ALL CAME FROM one manufacturer , who took orders
and turned out a lot of boomboxes under different names.
SOME companies have different brand names for different
purposes. COORS HAS keystone, miller has Milwaukee best.
GM has several car companies, but have realized they are not fooling anybody and have closed a few.
And sometimes, as in your case, they are trying to get economies
of scale while still putting forward an image of exclusivity , thats
my guess, anyway.:1:
