I can get a pair of Paradigm Atom Monitor V1's for $40 off craigslist, they have been recently refoamed as well ... penny for your thoughts? (They should be better then my current Polk RT35's right?)

haha thats what I was thinking when I first saw them!! ... But I heard that the early Atom's were made cheaply and are not as good as the current line ... any truths to this?

you can not compare an earlier model at $40 to a current model that has been upgraded over the years and caries a retail price miles ahead of the price you are looking at. In my opinion if they sound better than everything else you have heard south of $100 then I would say go for it especially if you are using them for background sound or in a setup that is not your main setup. You could not build DIY speakers that could keep up with them after you figure the crossover, cabinet, and drivers.

I picked them up and ill test them out tomorrow ... they will definitely work great as backgrounds if all else fails.

Good choice and I hope they are in good shape so that you can get more than your moneys worth out of them.

Yea they are in good shape .... the veneer is a little beat up but i can live with that ... I wouldn't consider them to be mains mainly because of there boominess, they are very boomy compared to my Polk's but the Paradigm's really shine with there tweeter. They sound so much brighter and much more detailed than my Polk's. But the midrange was way to muddy/boomy to keep as mains.
