Picked these up recently from a fella in Hollywood, CA. Marantz Model 600, made only 1 year, 1980, last of 4 lines of Loudspeakers designed by Engineer Edmond May, just before his death in 1980. 36" tall, by 16" deep, by 15" wide, smoked glass tops, mirrored, bronze trim, wide dispersion modified LPF 2.25" Dome tweeters & 1.75" super tweeters, 5" long excursion midrange, 10" woofer, 25Hz to 29kHz/+/-3dB response curve, 200 watts power handling, 90dB SPL @ 1W/1M, crossover frequencies-700Hz/2800Hz/6500Hz, Cabinets laminated with genuine walnut veneer on sides, rear, front & top fascias, weight-75lbs each, grills-plywood frames with polyester cloth uniquely silkscreened to match the walnut veneer. Very unusual design, but very pretty to look at. Every time I look at them, I have a hard time looking away. :)

Very cool design. How much did they set you back?

But you never said anything about the sound quality of the speakers...and I assume you have to take the grills off to listen?

Never mind on the grills...I see they are cloth and not wood.

For vintage speakers they look like they are in excellent shape and have a vintage real wood look that a lot of people like especially people that like real wood furniture. I also would like to know how they sound. I have only heard one pair of marantz speakers in my lifetime and I was too young to really remember what they sounded like. But they might sound better than most speakers from that era now since they look like they have been treated like a new born.

Those grills are awesome! I've never seen anything like that.

Very cool speakers. Marantz made some nice sounding speakers back in the 70's. I would love to hear those baby's, especially with a vintage Marantz amp.

Very nice with the grills on, ugly with the grills off though.

I like them with the grills off. Wood grain grills are strange.

I'm gonna come over to your house, break in and .... listen to your speakers. No jury would convict me!

Those are awesome. Never seen anything like them.

AWESOME!!!!! They were probably too expensive to build AND to exotic for the average listener and wife. Beautiful... There's some "next level chit" going on in that desing my friend.

Wow.

those are pretty rare and the faux wood grain grill cloth is too cool. the only Marantz speakers i've ever heard were a big pair of Imperial 9's and they were really good.

Thanks fellas for the compliments. I appreciate your feedback very much. The 600's are truly sweet, and A few of my vintage receivers that I sold, I used the 600's for the buyer to demo the receiver, and they all commented on how smooth and clear they sounded. One guy said they were the best sounding speakers he ever heard and offered to buy them right then & there, but I said no. They are not harsh, shrill, tinny or colored at all with any type of music, at any volume right up to their maximum power rating. Bass is tight, clean and flatter than a smashed pancake :)

If that is the case then very good. I have heard nothing but good things about vintage Marantz gear and this is just another case of it, and they look like they have been babied like a Bentley.
