I'm looking to upgrade my 15 yr old Sound Dynamics 300ti, and these 2 are at the top of my list. It may seem like apples vs. oranges, but the HB1/VTF 1 combo is actually less than the Sierra 1 ($700 vs. $848 with the VTF1 on sale). My concern with the Sierra 1 is the smallish 5 1/4 in. midrange driver. I have a small listening room, but surely the dynamics are limited with this size midrange. The Hsu HB1 with a 6 1/2 in midrange is rated for 250 watts RMS; and the Sierra 1 at 200 RMS. The Stereomojo review of the HB1/VTF3 was amazing; I find it hard to believe a $300 speaker could sound that good, and have that kind of power handling. Of course, the Sierra 1 cabinet looks much more solid than the Hsu (20 lb vs. 14 lb) and certainly looks nicer. I listen mostly to classical orchestral and classical piano; and I wonder if anyone on the forum has experience with both speakers? Thanks,

Hi pawsman1 -

I've got a review of the Sierra-1 coming out soon.

I liked them better for rock. I also think they would do better in a mid sized room.

I have used the ascend sierra on a small room, and they can go loud enough. People has been positive when auditioned them.
