I guess this song is in the movie Blue Valentine, which I haven't seen yet but probs will soon. Anyway, I'm in Chicago this weekend (for the Dismemberment Plan reunion show on Sunday) and as I sat on the third-floor landing of my friend's apartment in Pilsen last night waiting for him to come home, I heard this through the door of the apartment across the hall. It sounded so absolutely perfect that I was thrilled when the whoever was listening to it moved the needle back to the beginning of the record to listen to it again when it finished... and then a second time and a third time. Later I found out that my friend's neighbor is a lovely woman named Kiara who I'd coincidentally met almost a decade ago when she lived with another friend in Logan Square who put us up when I was on tour with a friend's band... but anyway, I was anxious to find out more about that song and she filled me in. Some obscure soul recording from Columbus, OH that was unearthed on a Numero Group reissue a few years back. I guess they don't have any information about who wrote or recorded the song and the filmmakers are trying to track down anyone associated with it to pay them some royalties. I'm using a library computer right now and can't listen to the various versions that are up on YouTube but someone do me a favor and find me a good one to post here.
Great song.
