Panasonic SC-Ht80 - " NO PLAY " Problem

I have a Panasonic SC-HT80 Home Theater Sound System, purchased on 6/23/00, it will not play new release movies DVD's ( some in 2003 - almost all in 2004 ). It will play the new release special effects disc ( Disc Two ), and all of my old DVD's. When I insert the new release DVD's using the tray " NO PLAY " appears on the display. Please respond if you have any information about this problem or have any suggestions on how to solve this problem. I have contacted Panasonic Customer Call Center, they advised taking the Unit to a Service Center. I called the Service Center and they said it might need a new Laser costing approx. $ 200.00 . I do not understand why I need a new Laser if it will read the new release Special Effects disc and the old DVD's.

We are experiencing the same type of problem with Panasonic DVD-A112. No Play message appears erratically. Sometimes it displays on DVDs that worked in the past. DVDs aren't dirty. They are brand new yet. In the past, we could just keep reinserting the DVD to get it to read eventually. Now that doesn't even seem to be working. It is starting to look grim like we need to purchase a new DVD player ....it won't be Panasonic that's for sure.
