Well i finally got a HD tv. The new house won't be built till spring 2011 so i said wtf and bought a new television set for the condo. Strictly 2.0. Using some mini mirage speakers in the meantime.

If the tv set has a built in virtual mode like srs, you can run two audio cables from the audio output of the tv set into that Mac eqipment which has some very fine sound and see what you get.

The only audio out the tv has is optical so i have it running into my DAC which then feeds into the preamp. sounds pretty good.

Hills; that surprises me that the tv only has an optical audio out and not an analog audio out, however doing it via optical is fine.

Yeah i know i thought the same thing but as I researched tv's i found out that many of the newer sets don't have analog outs anymore. I guess the manufacture's have the home theater enthusiast in mind and make the assumptions that he/she will have an av receiver. Thankfully i have the dac otherwise i'm not sure how i'd hook it up.

The CE manufacturers are phasing out analog outputs slowly but surely. It has already started with Bluray players, and has now moved on to televisions. Pretty soon it will be hard to find a receiver that has them, as they will substitute more HDMI inputs to replace the old analog inputs.
Beginning on 12/31/10 any analog outputs on Bluray players will only support 480 and 576i off the analog component outputs.
In 2013 the BDA will phase out all analog outputs on Bluray players. From then on it is all T-base and HDMI only
