Hi there,

I synched my usb flash drive with media monkey and basically copied a few playlist files to it. When I plugged it into the usb slot of my car, it'd just play the mp3s in the folders and not even recognize my m3u file.

Is that the general approach of all car audios or is there a way to tweak this?

Thanks,

doesn't the mp3 and m3u require a different codex?

it would be a codex issue in your car player. you should see if there is a firmware update for it or something.

Most players wont recognize playlist files. I have a yamaha player with ipod and USB,
just plays it like it reads them.
Most of these players are really simple, if they played playlist files, you would need some way to control the play, it would have to interface the playlist file with the controls, and you are talking about a whole different level of software , out of the pay grade of most of these cheap players. Basic play is all you will get, and thats not too bad, really.:1:

Just as noted above most players won't use the playlist, but if you place your files in folders then most HU will view that as the the location of the your songs:

Folder name (Hard Rock).....blink 182, def leapard, and so on
(Hip Hop).........LL Cool J, 50 Cent and so on
(Jazz)..............Boney James, Norman Brown, David Sanborn and so on

USB Operation - MP3/WMA Files (Optional)
"ROOT" will be displayed if the directory name of a root folder is not labeled.
This icon will illuminate when the song title is displayed.
This icon will illuminate when the artist name is displayed.
This icon will illuminate when the folder name is displayed.
This icon will illuminate when the track name is displayed.
Press to select the previous folder.
Press to select the next folder.
Note: Folder access is only available on USB devices with more than one folder.
Connecting a USB Device (sold separately)
Playing Music
Track Select
Fast Forward and Reverse
Pause
Displaying Information
Title Icon
Artist Icon
Folder Icon
File Icon
Folder Access (LINE 1)FILE NAMEELAPSED TIMECLOCKTRACK NUMBERTOTAL TRACKSARTISTSONG TITLEFOLDER NAME(LINE 2)

this is how the manual on both of my systems say to do it.
Now if you have a Ipod control interface then the Ipod maintains its playlist but then you really are playing through the Ipod and not the HU.
