Hey all,

I've had a JVC AL-A155 Turntable for a long time. It's always served me well and sounded great.

However, it's about 15 years old now and still on its original stylus.

When I bought it, I was told that the stylus was a readily available one due to it's symbol. Now it seems no one knows what I mean...

That's the symbol. Sorry for the pic, the lighting kind of sucks here right now...

Any thoughts? Can I get a replacement or do I have to replace more than just the stylus?

Thanks!

Oh, and a lesser issue, the player won't auto-return anymore. Is that something that can be adjusted?

That symbol indicates a P-mount cartridge can be plugged into the end of the tonearm. One screw in the side of the area where the cartridge is plugged in is all you have to remove to unplug the cartridge. With a cartridge that is old you might wantto buy a new cartridge that will come with a brand new needle/stylus. Audio Technica, Shure and Grado make P-mount cartridges at many price points.

I'd recommend this one...

The auto-return might be operated by a belt that has failed.

I think if I get a new cartridge that I can live with the auto return not working.

I'll get a better player one day.

I've had great luck with these guys:

The site is pretty user friendly, and you can buy just the stylus, but go for the original, or pay the extra bucks for the better offering. The low priced generic ones are crummy.

In the case of the AT311EP, the whole cartridge is cheaper than the stylus alone.

Ok, I have a question concerning the volume; or lack there of. I recently acquired a very nice JVC AL A155 turntable from a family friend. It has the RCA audio cables; and everything workds like a dream: except I have turn the volume to concert level just to hear a normal amount; not to mention I have little to no bass. Is there a line out switch anywhere I might be missing? Thank you so much for any help at all. Cheers, Ricsi.

Sounds like you are lacking a phono preamp. A phono preamp raises the output of the cartridge to the level of a cd player or tuner. The lack of bass you are hearing is because the lack of RIAA equalization. What do you have the turntable plugged into and what phono cartridge are you using?

"Fisher" is a brand that has been around since the dawn of the hi-fi industry and has made hundreds, if not thousands, of different products over that time. They made everything from fine audio products to stuff that rivals chap plastic table radios over their lifetime.

Perhaps if you supplied a model number, and a description of what it is and about how old it is, we might be of more help.

Also, are there inputs on the back of the "Fisher" labelled "Phono"? If so, you should be using them, and them only for this.

never mind, I have it figured out myself. No "phono" jacks , only AUX and Speaker Jacks.
