I never heard of that before. What is supposed to be the benefit? And, how often are you talking about doing this process? It don't sound like a good idea to me.

I can't think of any benefit of doing that what so ever.

Joe, leave your tubes in friend. What kind of amp are you using? With that info, we can give you the best practices.

Draining the caps would make sense if you are adjusting the bias.

Not sure what you mean. As for me, I've observed bias changes with the VTLs for the first couple of hours of operation. It is for that reason that I let mine run and stabilize for about three hours before making any changes.

Capacitors like being charged. Small signal tubes (12A** series for example) have a useful life in the thousands of hours.

Where in the world did you hear that unplugging gear and removing the tubes was advisable?

DAVID62,
You must BE fooling around, but just in case you are serious.......
Unplugging gear ? My cats do that, but then they have 9 lives and enjoy the feline equivalent of diplomatic immunity!!! Electrical Storms and not using equipment for extended periods are the only 2 things to justify this, and recently this thing about leaving gear in Standby mode is being discouraged here in Portugal, you know save electricity sort of stuff...
Pulling out the tubes? YouŽd probably end up breaking them before the end of their useful life not to mention causing all sorts of problems with their sockets.

In my amp's bias instructions it says to leave the amp on for at least 30 minutes before going into the bias routine.
