Its HERE (finally)

Tommorrow is a big day for Blu RAY.
WHAT promises to be a "reference " for the media is going to be released.
Lord of the Rings, the trilogy, all three movies for the one low price of
59.95.
If the showings on cable over Easter weekend are from the same versions, it is going to be spectacular.
PROBABLY give BLU a kick in the butt also.

Does it look and sound better that what's come out before? The reviews seem to be mixed.

Nice release, but doubt that it will move Blu-ray one way or another. Sales from previously released catalog title pale in comparison with what new releases generate, and the LOTR version coming out tomorrow consists only of the theatrical cuts without any of the extended version footage (which you know will come out later in a more complete package). I'll skip this one and wait for the better release to come out.

The extended version was a tad long for my taste.

The version on TV is the theatrical cut. Presumably the next LOTR release will have the extended and theatrical cuts on the same disc via seamless branching (same thing as the most recent DVD release, which also had both versions on the same disc), and include a new set of bonus features (and I haven't even finished getting through the mountain of material included in those 4-disc extended DVD sets).

BTW, the verdict on the video quality is not good. Hopefully this is something that can get cleaned up for future releases.
