You can use any receivers but the subwoofer is not powered so the receiver has to have the internal subwoofer amplifier otherwise you won't be able to use it.

I second what dakatabg said, but you will find most receivers do not have a powered channel for a sub, just a pre-out.
Hit parts express up for an amp and box for your sub.

You need the wicked witch receiver of the West.

The only receivers I know of that would power a sub is HTIB. If surround is important and you can stretch the budget look at the Yamaha rx-v465. Usually can be found between $249.00 and $299.00. You may have to forgo the sub until being able to afford an external amp for yours if passive.

Ok thanks

What about the PANASONIC RECIEVER SA-HE200

Panasonic makes nice clean sounding systems. If you are looking for a nice simple system that sounds good, this will work just fine. If you’re looking for something that will offer a little better performance as far as detail, dynamic range, transparence, sound stage ect..., this system probably will not deliver.

Power consumption is just one good way to indicator of what this receiver can do. They rate it at 760watts total, but the power consumption is rated at 350.0 Watt, so something does not add up. Divide 350 x 6 and that will give you a better idea of what RMS the amps are running. A little under 60 watts. But still good for a small set of bookshelf speakers. hope this helps. Good Luck.

The power consumption doesn't really have much to do with the power output at the speaker terminals as far as specs go.

Here's some basic info on the he200: http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers/panasonic-sa-he200/1707-6466_7-8410565.html

I don't know their models very well. They had some receivers with digital amp section that got a good buzz around the forums as being excellent. Unfortunately about the time the wave started Panasonic quit putting them out. If you could find one of those and didn't need the latest surround and video features it would be good.

Robbie, what are you going to be hooking to the receiver? Do you have a HDTV, going to use Blu ray? Are you wanting surround sound? What budget? Knowing a bit about your needs will help narrow the field and point you in the right direction.

I got that Bud from your first post, but do you want stereo only, do you want surround sound, are you going to need video inputs, if so, what kind of TV and movie players do you have?

Robbie

I want definitely surroundsound, this is also a surroundsound set.

I have just a simple dvd player and a simple tv, but i want them both hooked to the receiver.

You know if you could do it you should get something like the Yamaha rx-v465. On Amazon I found one for $249.00 but they are normally $299.00. This is over your budget but it does have all the latest features with full function HDMI. If you could spend the extra money you wouldn't have to upgrade later when moving to HD.

If the extra money is out of the question. There's no one perfect receiver. Find one used that meets your needs and go for it. With Canton I'd probably stick with a Marantz or Yamaha. I find them typically a bit warmer. Onkyo or Denon are very good brands as well. If you find a receiver with A/B main speaker terminals you could run the sub off the "B" set. I'm not a big Pioneer fan but in past couple years were supposed to be putting out some better stuff, I don't know the models well enough to tell you which ones to get.

Another option since you don't need HDMI yet are new models by Pioneer like 819 or lower Yamaha like rx-v365. Some lower models only pass video through the HDMI but this wouldn't be a concern for you at this point. Going with anything other than the Yamaha rx-v465 or equivalent Pioneer would cause you to eventually have to upgrade when going High Definition. Only you know if and when that will be a concern. Stretching the budget to $299.00 would hold you good for some time to come.

At the moment i cant find this typ, but i found this one:

Is this also a good option??

The 657 is an older model which does not have HDMI or HD audio decoding for Blu ray discs. If you found one at a good price it would be a good option. It does have multichannel input which can be used for Blu ray players with the same MC output. The 657 offers component video which could work for lower resolution HD signals. It would not pass 1080p that comes from Blu ray players, this isn't a concern for you now but could be in the future. Blu ray also has optical and coaxial audio so the 657 would certainly be usable until able to upgrade to a more modern receiver down the road. Just depends on whether you want to buy for now or try to buy to be "future proof" if there is such a thing. If not worried about the future the 657 would be a good compromise because it's features are new enough it could be made to work with HD until ready for the next step.

You don't have High Def yet so if you don't mind a future upgrade you could probably pick up an older receiver for cheap as many are upgrading to HDMI and dumping the older receivers.

Ok, i understand, thanks for that.

Unfortunately its my budget that holds me back.

What do you think about the Sony QS and ES serie, i heard that they have a good reputation!

I found one on the internet.

Can you please have a look at them and tell me what you think.

I personally do not like Sony. I find them overly bright and not reliable. Some of the ES line is better. If it's any gauge I don't think any one here owns a regular Sony receiver.

The think is that i really dont know where to look.

All the Yamahas are different, there not all that good and this is the same by Denon and so on... There are thousande different Types and on the internet there are honderts to find .
If you look for a second hand one for only 180 Dollar and you dont know exactly where to look for, its a hell of a job...

i found this one i minute ago

http://www.yamaha-hifi.de/products.php?idcat1=1&country=&idcat2=2&lang=e&idcat3=2&idprod=344&archivset=1&newsset=0

Is this a good one....

The 1200 looks like a good receiver. The drawbacks are video inputs. For now you'd be fine but if you go HD some day you'd have to go straight to TV with video. This isn't such a bad thing but many like video switching. The 657 has more advanced video options. However, on paper the 1200 looks to have a pretty good amp section. Yamaha aren't bad receivers at all. It's probably the most used at this forum. I tend to lean toward Onkyo in the mass market receivers. Oh, the 1200 looked like it had a really nice remote.

As far as buying used you can sort of narrow it down by deciding what features are important to you and which brands you'd accept and which are out of the question, if any. Please don't let my bias toward Sony effect your decision if you like them.

Ok thanks.

I think i found a good deal on the internet now.
This Sony ES costs about 200 dollars!

But i think i will go to a hifi shop to listen to Sony first

You need the wicked witch receiver of the West.

I don't care who you are. I was doing a forum search and saw he used 'Witch' instead of which, and I had to see if anyone made sport of it, and you did so very nicely.
