I've seen some good flicks lately, these 2 take the cake.
Ichi is a remake of the classic character Zatoichi. They have put in a twist. The character has been reinterpreted as a woman. Don't worry, she chops many heads off...

From the Jackie Chan camp, amazing choreography. The audio on this one is killer...

I hipe this is not a sequel to another movie called Ichi? I remember some absolutely revolting torture-fest by that name from a few years ago.

No, not at all. You're talking about Ichi the Killer. As I said in my OP, it's an interpretation of the Zatoichi franchise. Haha, not to your taste I take it?

Hey Pop, do you rent these movies or buy. And from where?

I generally buy them. There's an Asian video store in town, they get them before Blockbuster or any other chain. I won't lie, I have copied a few while renting.
I should add that you would like Ichi Smoke. Fantastic sword play. The 5.1 when they unsheath their swords, or do the 'ol draw and slash, is worth it alone.

Yeah that one. The scene where they break the poor girl's hands and then slice off her nipples is where I decided that was enough and turned it off. I can enjoy your regular sword-fighting king-fu movie, but this was just beyond the pale - what a disgusting pile of dung. And I read that in Japan that's considered humorous fare. If so, I really wonder what makes them cry. I'm amazed that kind of senseless gore even finds any funding, much less an audience.

I would disagree to an extent. I don't think that Ichi the Killer represents any kind of norm for Japanese cinema. It was way over the top. I think in general, Japanese enjoy the arts but don't take it to heart, whether it's music or movies...
I am a HUGE fan of Samurai cinema. I also have a pretty extensive collection of other Japanese martial arts and action flicks.
Don't let one bad apple spoil the genre for you...
