Hello,

It's been a long time since I did research and invested in my stereo system but the death of my nearly 25 year old HK PM665 (int. amp) prompted this new journey.

After a good bit of research (and an increase in my initial budget!), I've settled on the Peachtree Nova integrated amp, along with a Wadia 170i transport (both yet to arrive), which will enable me to play Apple Lossless files through my iPod. In addition, I have a Marantz CD5001 and Sony XDRF1HD digital tuner.

My Polk Audio SDA2A speakers of the same era are still going strong, but I'm looking at some options to potentially replace them as well. I play a lot of different kinds of music in a large living room/dining room area (17' X 40') that has mostly hardwood floors.

I'm seriously considering the Salk SongTower QWTs ($1795; http://salkaudio.com/speakers_songseries_songtowerqwt.shtml), but have some questions I hope the knowledgeable folks here can help me with.

Specifically, I'm curious if anyone has experience with the Nova/SongTower combination. If not, I'd like to hear if people think the SongTowers would be well-matched with the Nova -- the SongTowers recommend 30-150 tube watts and 80-250 solid state watts; the Nova provides 80 watts X 2 channels (into 8 ohms) in a hybrid tube/solid-state design. I'm out of my league here, frankly, so would like to learn more and arrive at a solid answer.

Of course, if someone has a suggestion for a pair of speakers well-matched with the Nova in the $1500 range, I'd be interested to look into those as well. I'm looking for floorstanding models.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone is able to offer.

i believe totem uses/has used the nova with their speakers at shows in the past...also, era design speakers are made by the same company as peachtree.. the d10 might be a good choice too

I've never heard the Song Towers but I have heard the Salk Veracity HTR-3's with tube and solid state equipment. They are awesome speakers and really match well with tube gear, especially Van Alstine equipment which has some special chemistry with Salk speakers. Frank Van Alstine and Jim Salk showcase their equipment together at all the audio shows. I've been over to Frank VA's home and listened to the speakers with his gear which convinced me to buy some of his tube equipment.
