Hi!

I have an Cambridge A500RC amplifier and I`m trying to connect a turntable to it,but all i get is low volume in my speakers. As i know i need preamp.I want to be able to connect the laptop and record player at the same time to A500 and to switch between them with a press of a button. Without need to change cables every time i want to switch between the laptop and record player. It is possible or it`s just my imagination?I have found this ART USB PhonoPlus V2 preamp (http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?ref=gbase&Track=PHONOPLUSV2),but i`m not sure if this is what i`m looking for.Can someone help me with this?

Thanks

You need a phono preamp!

Like blackraven said you will have to get a preamplifier with a phono input! Whatever you do without it you won't get it working!

Is that what you are using ?

I know i need a preamp. But which one?Outboard or Internal stage?I would go for an outboard just because of easy installation.Does the price affect sound quality?Which one would be better, CAMBRIDGE AUDIO 540P (http://www.richersounds.com/product/phono-pre-amps/cambridge-audio/540p/camb-540p-blk) or ART USB PhonoPlus V2 (http://www.chemical-records.co.uk/sc/servlet/Info?Track=PHONOPLUSV2) ?

Welcome to AudioReview dzhoshkun. If you are only looking for a phono preamp the CA 540P would be very good when used with a moving magnet cartridge. I have the CA 640P and it is very good with mm cartridges. If you are looking for a phono preamp that will allow you to store music on your computer then you would want one with usb out put. I am not familiar with the ART USB phono preamps but if you need one you might want to check out the Pro-ject model or the Bellari.

I would buy this Bellari preamp if I was on a budget. It's highly rated, has a Vacuum Tube and is better than some costing hundreds more. I've heard it and it has very good sound but you have to take into account how good your TT and Cartridge are as well.

How much are you into records?
There are cheapjack usb turntables, probably wont sound half bad, and Sony and others make turntables with preamps built in, dont sound half bad.
Certainly not "audiophile" but the sound is quite good, for what it is.:1:

I`m "deep" into it :)
I have an old Technics SLQ-21,an it`s an indestructible machine. Why should i use cheap plastic record players?!
Anyway,i think i will go for a Cambridge 540P preamp.
Thanks for help!
