My local stereo shop is selling refurbished KLH 10" subs for $99. model: ASW10-120

Are these any good?

Right now I have dual 5" center/ and 3way 10" for fronts/ 5" surround.

Just trying to finish off my system.

Any reccomondations as to some average sounding Sub's?

I heard a sub from that brand today at Best Buy. I was actually looking for a DVD when I heard a familiar "bottom out" sound. Just in case, it's when a sub-woofer reaches the limits of sound that it can reproduce without distortion. It sounded so bad, that I wanted to see what the hell it was. Low and behold, a KLH sub. If you use this in a limited (not loud) fashion, it will probably be alright. Forget it if you want great low frequency sound.
Save your money to buy something better later.

Paradigm PDR 12 v4 and PS 1000 v4. In Canada they are very affordable and offer good output.

Try to better better quality today so you don't have to buy a new one a year from now. I heard the Athena AS-P300 isn't too bad and rumored to be made by same company as Mirage. Also the Klipsch KSW-10 and KSW-12 go for around 299-450 depending on what store you go to. They will give loud volume for HT, just won't go super low and be tight. Listen to any of them first before you buy. You'll hear the quality differences. Good luck.

Stereo Guy; If my receiver had a loudness or bass boost configuration(some do) I would switch that on instead setting the two threeways you have to LARGE and the other speakers to SMALL for bass management. I have not had the opportunity to experiment with a mixture of LARGE SPEAKERS with SMALL SPEAKERS with a sub. I think I would change the mains to two satellite speakers with 5 to 5 l/4 inch woofers, set them all to small and add a good sub with a minimum l0 inch driver. I do not have the experience however to recommend to you what sub to buy. I am sorry I cannot help you there.

How big is your room? I have that sub in my 10x11 room and it sounds fine. It extends down to 28Hz. Its not going to play loud but it sounds good for movies and music. If you do get it make sure to set the x-over at 60 or below.

I wouldn't go for that KLH sub, regardless of the price. Perhaps if you detail your system a little more clearly (brands and models) you may get better suggestions end the long run. No sense matching a crudola sub with a decent set up and vice versa.

My room is 18-feet by 14-feet.
-----------------/-------------------

I called my local stereo shop today and got a price on the Paradigm PS-1000 for $575. These look very nice. Think i'm going to save alittle more for these.

I want to keep the 3way 10" for when I have partys I can just change the amp to stereo mode and let them shake my house down to the ground :)

My system is almost done now.

Thanks for your posts.

Could go with a used Adire Audio Rava or HSU VTF-2. If you have something other than your primary receiver to power it with, look at either a SVS 25-31CS or VMPS New Original Subwoofer.

Ive got that KLH sub, bought it a few years ago at costco for 99 bucks, for the money, and what i use it for, its just fine. Id never use it for music as it is way too boomy but for movies its usually ok.

At the moment its being used as a stand for my preamp :p
