harman and kardon or yamaha ?

right now i have a yamaha rx-v361 receiver and i was wondering if i should sell it and buy a harman and kardon AVR-130, my receiver is only a year old and the harman kardon is like 5 years old which on is better ? thanx

Stick with the new AVR, it probably has more up to date processing if you are using it fir HT use.

That is a very hard question! I will stick with the Harman Kardon because I like this brand! Yamaha has good stuff too and they are on the same level with Harman Kardon!

yeah im thinking about it but i just sold my receiver and a pair of bose 301s to my dad for 250 which is a steal but now im looking for a new amp n0w and im not sure what to buy im thinking NAD but idk

Nad has many many good amplifiers and you won't be disappointed! How much are you planning to spend on an amplifier? are you looking for an amplifier or a receiver?

If you are using the unit for music only then really I would stick with the yamaha and if you wanted to upgrade for music then look for some used seperates like Adcom or Rotel or if you really wnat an upgrade some used Krell or Conrad johnson would be a real upgrade from you yamaha. Another posibility is if your receiver has preamp outputs like mine does then you could go with a seperate amp. I use my Yamaha receiver as a preamp in 2 channel music mode to run a Adcom power amp and it works very well. I would upgrade to a power amp if your receiver has these outputs and then if you want dedicated 2 channel get a preamp later on to match your power amp and you will have better 2 channel sound than any receiver.

yeah im mostly gonna use just two channel but my budget is $400 to $600 i like rotel and krell but i doubt i can get anything like that with my budget

Take a look at the Outlaw audio RR2150 receiver or the Onkyo 9555 integrated amp. The outla is a very high quality 2ch receiver with bass management.

I have read reviews on the Outlaw receiver and it seems to rate well. I did not see that you have sold your receiver or I would not have mentioned hooking it up as a preamp for a power amp, sorry. In the 400 to 600 dollar range you might be able to swing a used Adcom preamp and a 545 mk2 power amp off of ebay. they are on there all the time. You can buy the preamp for around 150 to 200 bucks and by the 545 mk2 for around 150 to 200 bucks. Thats in your price range and many people think that the Adcom 545 Mk2 is one of the best amps in its class made and I know I love mine and would have to spend at least a couple thousand to get performance to beat this amp by any margin what so ever. That would be my recomendation and with buying seperates you will have more of a open area for upgrades since your gear will be seperated. Adcom isn't the only player in this price group that can be had used. NAD,PARASOUND,ROTEL,ODYSSEY AUDIO KARMA SERIES are just a few to keep you eyes out for. They should be able to be had in the same price range as a new or later model receiver and their performance is on a different scale than receivers in my opinion. I would at least look around at the used seperates on Ebay or Audiogon and see whats out there that you can afford before buying a receiver. Just trying to get the best for your dollar.

yeah i think receivers are nice but separates are better cause u can upgrade single
things and u get the best bang for your buck
