Buying Cigarettes online

Was wondering if anybody has bought cigarettes online?

With price of cigarettes almost doubling in last couple of months, I see the prices on Internet is almost half of what is priced locally. I use to pay $28 for a carlton of cigarettes (Eve Ultralight 120s) back in March, and now pay $48 locally.

But found the same cigarette brand online for about $30 which is a big saving. So any trusted web sites.

Is it legal to sell cigarettes on-line? What about age restrictions? How do they know that the person buying is old enough to legally purchase cigarettes?

I can't help you with your question...I'm just boggled that you can purchase ciggies on-line.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to transport smokes over state lines, at least it used to be so it's not likely that even if you can buy them online, that you won't be paying reciprocal taxes.

My advise would be to just quit smoking, and I'll bet; knowing what I know about the membership here, 1,000 people will say the same thing no matter what Smokey. Stupid habit I used to practice until I quit on a National Smoke Out day, cold turkey, about 12 years ago.

Good for you Rich! It's been 18 years for me. I also quit cold turkey. It's the only way IMO. To this day, it's the hardest thing that I've ever done...and the smartest. A friend of mine recently died from a heart attack at age 50. He'd been a heavy smoker for 30 years.

If they cannot verify your age, I think it is illegal. Though I am not sure you would be prosecuted, but the business on the other side, not so sure.

I quit smoking cold turkey too. I could never keep it lit, and it smelled foul.

My last cig was March 31st at 11:55 PM 1992.

The plan was to quit on April fools day. Smoked my butt off up until that night. Put the last one out because I was sick of them by then. Tossed the rest of the pack away after crushing them.

Sorry Smokey. This is all the help I can offer. Smokers may be paying for today's healthcare, but they are also the reason it costs so much. More people die from smoking related causes than anything else.

Live free of smoke, die much later. The world will miss you soon enough. Don't rush it.

In Ontario, it is illegal to sell cigarettes to anyone under age 18 but not illegal to buy them.

The cops actually set up sting operations where they send minors into stores to buy cigarettes and then charge the store owners who sell them to the kids. They can do this legally since the minor isn't breaking any laws.

We have the same policy here. That is why I say they may get the business, but leave the Smokester alone.

I watched one of these stings take place right in front of my eyes. Maybe growing up in NYC help me see things that others could not. The sting was so obvious that I did not know why the guy who got caught didn't see it coming.

Was it a kid doing the selling? I've seen that. I know a girl who was younger than the guy buying them who got busted for selling.

She says that 80% of her customers come in to buy cigarettes. I was shocked at that number because I didn't think that many people still smoked!

With those kind of numbers, losing your license to sell cigarettes, would likely ruin your business. If people aren't coming to buy cigarettes, they're probably not coming in at all.

Seriously, I started when I was 12 and quit when I was 25. I have a 13-yr-old niece and it totally boggles my mind to think that I was smoking at her age. Thank goodness she has a lot more sense than her old aunt.

I've purchased tobaccom online about 8 years ago, soon after the distributor stopped importing a certain brand. The Three Castle!!! Remember this?

I bought them from an online store-front from UK, and think I ended up paying twice as much with S&H.

If the cost is an issue, then try to smoke less. Here is what I've started about a month ago. On my 25 minute trafficless commute, I've always smoked 3 cigarettes on my way to work. Now, I only smoke one. I just wait until I drive past a certain landmark. For my case, I try to wait until I pass the water-tower on exit 126. Next week, I'm going to (try to) stop smoking in a car when I travel for less than 1 hour.

Trust me man, it's more rewarding if you cut down and wait longer between smokes.

It was mentioned that smokers pay for national healthcare, and that is pretty much true, especially with recent price hike of $2 a pack. If we assume that 50 million smokes, on a daily base, there is $100 million revenue just from recent price increase. Which add up to about $35 billion a year.

You just exactly describe my morning commute habit. In the morning, the craving is at highest since have to get mentally ready for the day. And your solution is probably the best by trying to cut back on smoking from three cig to only one. It is doable.

That's why we can't outlaw smoking or have you guys quit. If the smokers started quitting, they'd go after alcohol next - I'd hate that. This why I don't understand why the gov't doesn't just go ahead and legalize recreational drugs...all of them. Think of the tax revenue it would generate. First the gov't could lower the price of the drugs so that a larger part of the population would indulge in them, then when everybody was hooked, the gov't could then raise the taxes on those drugs as much as they want; we've seen that once a smoker is hooked, they'll pay anything for their smokes, no matter how much they go up in price. Just leave alcohol out of the equation though.
