Still waiting for a simple VCR like DVR that does not need a paid subscription.

Why are there not several of these available yet?

I beleive Tivo doesnt require a subscription, don't know what there deal is.
But whats wrong with subscriptions? That seems to be the way the world is going.
If its good enough for newspapers, magazines, and internet porn sites it should be good enough for video delivery.:1:

Take a look at a DTVPal DVR. Only works on OTA signals though. I have one. Pretty neat device and seems pretty bug-free now that the software is on its 6th or 7th revision. Uses Free TV Guide On Screen where available, the PSIP info most stations send out, or manual set timers to set for recordings. Can record two programs simultaneously.
