Hello. I'm in the process of picking an amp to drive my front speakers for stereo and relegate my Yamaha 1400 to theatre processing.
I have a Velodyne HGS 12 sub and am looking for an amp that stands out in the midrange and upper (60HZ and above).
I'm looking at a 2-channel amp driving approx. 200wpc.
Looking at Rotel 990, Anthem mca 2.
Any other suggestions? Thank you so much.

BTW-can't say enough about Velodyne HGS or it's DD successor.
If you can score a good deal on a used one-pull the trigger.

I see you are looking at Rotel and Anthem. Have worked with both brands and both have good amplifiers in their lineup. I would not count out Adcom either. If you look around alot of times you can find them used in great shape and not have to pay a fortune for them. If my memory serves me well the 555 is around the 200 wpc area and I have heard this unit on some very high end speakers and it will hold its own with products with a lot higher price tag. Bryston is also a brand to look at. They have a very good product but I doubt that you will be able to find them quite as cheap as the Adcoms. A lot of people overlook the older Adcoms because they can be found inexpensively so they think they are not high quality but after talking to several people on this site they share my like for the Adcom products. If you wanted something newer the Adcom 5500 is a newer version of the 555 and is well reviewed as well. There are allot of good amps out there it just takes doing a little homework figuring out which brand and model will fill our needs. good luck

another product I spent some time with when I worked at high end shop where I live was Acurus. They are not made anymore but one of the reps that would come by the shop brought in a acurus a 200 power amp and for the money it had a very good sound and when we compared it to the Adcom it compared very well. If you can find one used you it could probably be had for a good price. I am not sure if you are even interested in buying used but sometimes you can get way more performance per dollar spent buying this way and amplifiers generally are a safe purchase used since they don't have moving parts that go out like cd players and turntables.

I know a lot of Axiom speaker lovers use Emotiva amps and say that they are wonderful sounding. I also know that the price seems to be at a good point. I have not heard the Emotiva line so I am not sure but I do like the Axiom speakers and if these amps can make them sound that good then they must be doing something right.

I am curious what Main speakers are you going to run with this amp?

Emotiva. I have their XPA-5 5ch amp and ERM-1 speakers. Highly recommended.
