I've seen a guy do this, up close, once... except even better. It really is a beautiful sound, especially when they can do multi-part harmonies.

I liked the Tull joke at the end, too.

That thing makes some crazy sounds. A bit freakier than the theremin. But definably NOT more freaky than this (http://www.subgenius.com/bigfist/fun/devivals/8XDay/8X-Day_Pics/teX-Day05-Frop-Dec/images/023-sis-d-theremin.jpg)! (image, kind of not safe for work but worth a click for sure!)
