I just bought a Pioneer SX 838 and am wondering if I can pair this with Pioneer HPM 100 speakers.

Thanks!

Sounds like a match made in heaven, or at least Japan.

For sure...just use some typical 12-14 gauge speaker wire and you'll be all set.

50 feet of wire http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10239&cs_id=1023901&p_id=2747&seq=1&format=2
100 feet http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10239&cs_id=1023901&p_id=2789&seq=1&format=2
300 feet http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10239&cs_id=1023901&p_id=2790&seq=1&format=2

Strange thing is though, if you factor in the qty discount, it's cheaper to buy the 50 foot roll as many times as needed.

Oh, and it's fine match.

Thanks guys. Speakers arrive Monday. Can't wait!

Next question will be what kind of cd player to hook up. I'm looking at a Pioneer PD-M603 6 CD Changer.

Skip the CD changer and get a good single disc player.

Look at these models Marantz SA 5003 http://us.marantz.com/Products/2529.asp , Emotiva ERC-1 http://emotiva.com/erc1.shtm , Oppo 980 universal DVDP that is a very good budget CD player for $169 www.oppodigital.com

Marantz also makes a CD changer http://us.marantz.com/Products/1860.asp

Boy, are you going to enjoy those HPM-100s. I am not familar with the 838 receiver though. My friend still has a pair of those 100s. I am not crazy about Pioneer cd players. Follow the advice given by the other members here.

I am going to make a big assumption here that you like to rock out a bit as do most owners of HPM-100's. The SX-838 will work because even though it is rated at 50wpc gear from that era was truer to its specs than alot of the 100wpc advertised out there today. Having said that, those speakers can take some power and if you have the resources there are a few pieces from that SX line that had a litlle more power or you could go with separates. Ultimately the deciding factor should be your ears not specs. I have some gear rated at only 20wpc that does an outstanding job powering some of my older speakers. It may depend on the music you listen to and the volume you like to hear it at before you can really determine if the 838 is up to the job.

Thanks for the advice on the cd player. And yes, I do like to rock out a bit. Mostly I just appreciate good music, good sound quality.

I have one of these and love it.

Along with yer basic CD's, it also plays SACD, DVD-Audio (if you can still find them), DVD's and virtually anything except Blu-Ray and HD-DVD. ...and it's solidly built.

On the other hand, I've had and loved Pioneer 6 CD magazine changers simply for their fast shuffle play.
