Anybody have a recommendation on a subwoofer???

I recently bought an older NHT system (VT1.4 fronts, superone surrounds & VS-2A center channel in case it matters) from a guy on craigslist that sounds good and has a Paradigm PS-1000 subwoofer. I just purchased a Velodyne Minivee 10 online for $375.00 including shipping and it should be here in a couple days. I also came across a SVS 20-39 PC Plus subwoofer for $475.00, but I don't know whether I should ditch the first two subs and buy this one, or not. I only watch movies....no music.

Anybody have an idea which sub would be best, any ideas?
Paradigm PS-1000, Velodyne Minivee 10 or SVS 20-39 PC Plus

Thanks in advance.....Chuck

I recently purchased a SVS PC 13 Ultra, one step above the 12+ which I believe replaced the 2039. Based on the performance of my U13 I'm pretty certain those other subs wouldn't stand a chance against the 2039. Check my comments on the thread "Any experience with SVS". My prior sub was a Velodyne SPL-1200 which cost about $1200.00 so it's pretty far up the line from the Mini. The U13 shames the 1200. Today new each cost about the same price, the 1200 and U13.

I recently auditioned a Richter Thor MkIV sub and it provides excellent value for money.
Australian made, I'm sure they are floating around in the USA.

Type:
Dual vented full acoustic damping enclosure with full perimeter bracing

Driver:
Low mass 300mm (12") cone, 150mm high power vented magnet. High temp 50mm Kapton voice coil

Amplifier:
170 watts RMS, <0.002% THD, auto on, 0/180o phase switch, crossover bypass Thermal/soft clipping protection, Low/High level operation

Response (Hz):
19-150

Dimensions (WxHxD in mm):
440 x 460 x 440

Well worth a listen for around $900AU or $750US.

Javamark, not to hijack but a quick question, do you tell any picture quality difference between the Oppo and Arcam?

Hi Mr Peabody,

The Oppo has considerably better picture quality (particular colour fullness). Plus it's horses for courses. The Oppo is Blu-ray whereas the Arcam isn't.
The Arcam is a good DVD player and really shines as a brilliant CD player, but the Oppo nails it for picture quality.
BTW the Oppo is one hellofa good CD/SACD player also.

That's quite a feat for Oppo, living up to their rep. Thanks
