Should I use a light lube, or should I use something along the lines of a grease?

Could I use the same lube I use on the belt on my turntable?

Thanks ad invance.

I never thought I would shout this but "No lube, no lube". Products to help the stylus last longer are Last "Stylast" and Mobile Fidelity LP "#9 Stylus Cleaner" which contains a preservative. These will reduce the friction of the diamond against the vinyl and lengthen the life of the stylus. You want to apply sparingly so the fluid does not migrate up the cantilever into the suspension or coils.

I find a little spit on the end on my stylus does wonders.

I think this was just a typo.
But if you are looking to clean your stylus, get the Zerodust. There was a guy how used to sell them for $40 a pop on Agon. It is very much worth $69 of retail, but why pay more. I would avoid using any fluid type of cleaners. They just end up contaminating your stylus.

Or perhaps you were talking about lubing your platter bearing/spindle. I use sawing machine oil recommended by our guru, hifitommy. Good stuff and works miracles.
Also, dont get it near your TT belt...

Troy - Also good stuff.
02audionoob - Yes
Finch - More fun.

Wow! Wish I could come up with something spicy for you guys, but I'm still speechless.

A very small dab of KY on the tip but for best results make sure you also smear lots of Vaseline on the disk. :frown2:

A good stylus will ride deep in the groove.

Sadly not all vibrations are good for your stylus. Those have fallen out of favor since the vibrations have been found to weaken cantilever suspension wires.
