Busy as all get out at work and traveling next week, so I won't have time to research. As always, I appreciate the help/advice/legwork of everyone here.

Here's the kicker: the GF and I are on a self-imposed tight budget and honor system, but I've managed to sneak and set aside $600 with her being none the wiser. My "brother" gave me his old pair of Proac Tablette 50's and I told her that he's also giving me a cheap stereo component to use, once he gets it out of storage. (Sure, go ahead and laugh, but if I get caught in this little gambit, it means that she'll start buying those $500 a pair Chu, Boo, Mu, FooFoo -- or whatever the heck they're called -- shoes that she likes...and once she starts, there's no stopping her! And believe me, with me being out of town next week, she'll be looking for an excuse to shop.) Anyway, I need your help finding that "cheap" component for my home office.

My preference is for a 2-channel integrated amp, but if you can find a pre + power amp set up in that range, that works, too. No tuner needed at this time. Remote would be nice, but not essential. Other source component: Rega Apollo CD player...which I picked up from a "cousin."

Thanks in advance for all of the stealth work. :aureola:

Funny, your girlfriend told us she was getting a $600 mani-pedi, after she read your post.

Just kidding. One thing you didn't mention is if you're willing to buy used? If so, there are some pretty good deals to be had on eBay right now:

Liquid tube sound with solid detailed bass from this tube hybrid. 95 wpc into 8 ohms which doubles into 4 ohms with remote for $599 ( Pacificvalve ). Can't image anything superior at this price point. Clone of high end Music Fidelity.
